Workout Equipment: A Starter’s Guide

It’s a new year! We made it through 2020! I know a lot of you might be starting the year off with a workout-related resolution so I wanted to share my favorite pieces of at-home workout equipment with you!

I have a really irrational complex against working out in front of people. My kids are about the only ones who see me lift a weight or do a squat! When I started my fitness journey I only had a resistance band and a set of really light dumbbells. I rewarded myself with new equipment as I grew stronger and more knowledgeable about what I was doing! I wanted to write a blog post to share my favorite at home workout equipment. A starter kit , if you will. They are all super affordable and get you going in the right direction for quick and simple at home workouts!

First, a set of medium-weight dumbbells. You’ll want something that you can easily do 5-7 reps with, and somewhere between 10-12 you start to feel a struggle. It won’t take long for you to gain muscle and these will become your lightweight dumbbells…

I saved my favorite piece of equipment for last,  the kettlebell! I love kettlebell swings, but you can do so much more with one of these bad boys. Start with a light, but challenging weight. If you aren’t using proper form with a kettlebell you’ll do more damage than good. My first one was 15 lb and now I use 35 lb for most things!

None of these items will take up very much room in your home, and they are worth every penny! If you’re ready to start working out at home, or anywhere, head on over to the strong page and check out some of my personal workouts! I love writing them for myself, and other people, and I really love the challenge of making each one customized to exactly what you have available to you!
